How to install ZenCart at GoDaddy
If you host your domain at GoDaddy and want to install ZenCart, forget about FTP! Just click and let GoDaddy handle the install for you. Here are the simple steps you need to take.
First, login to your GoDaddy hosting control panel.
Once logged in, choose “Go Daddy Hosting Connection” under the “Content” tab:

The following screen will then appear:

To the left, click on the link “eCommerce Solutions”

The menu will expand with options. Click on “ZenCart”

When the next screen appears, click on “Install Now!” to start the installation.

You will then be asked to choose a domain to install ZenCart on. Click on the button next to the domain:

Scroll down and click on “Continue”
GoDaddy will now set up the database for ZenCart. You will need to enter a password the database.

After entering your password, click on “Next”
You will need to specify the folder to install ZenCart. You can name the folder anything, for example: zencart, store, shop. You can also leave the box blank to have ZenCart installed into the root directory.

Click on “Next” to continue.
You now need to enter some basic details about your ZenCart store:

- Admin Name – enter an admin name (example: admin, owner)
- Admin Password – enter a password to access the store admin area
- Email – enter your email address
- Full Name – enter your full name
- Store Name – enter your store name
- Address – enter the address you want to appear on receipts
After entering your information, click on “Finish” to finish the installation.
The following screen should now appear:

That is it, GoDaddy will now install ZenCart for you!

Thanks for the information Lindsey. I had no idea GoDaddy offered this service. A LOT easier than FTP upload and manual setup!
You are welcome. It definitely makes install a breeze
How do you add a template theme once it is installed?
Hi Lynda, to upload/install a new template for ZenCart, please see my tutorial here: http://www.geraelindsey.com/zencart-1-3-8-tutorials/installing-new-templates-in-zencart
I was just about to install Zen Cart through the FTP. While I waited for the files to copy I found your walkthrough, thanks! Much easier for a first time user.

I am glad the tutorial helped!
Hello,
many many thanks for your tutorial. I just got off the phone with the Go Daddy customer support team and they walked me through installing this software. I forgot to ask them a few questions actually.
I was wondering if you were able to help me please?
1. I didn’t read this tut until after I had installed zen cart on my page, so I put my real address on the admin section. I do not want my real address on the reciepts, so once my databse has been created will be I able to change my address?
2. How do I know which information of Mine will be shown to the customer?
3. I will be using AlertPay as my payments processor…? I would imagine payment setup is provided when it’s finally installed? Or do I have to download the other AlertPay connector.
Many thanks
Hi Gerae,
Just wanted to say thanks for your tutorial on setting up Zen Cart. I’m new to ecommerce and it definately made installation a breeze. I’m going to check and see if you have any other tutorials on ZenCart. Thanks again!!!
Cynthia.

You entered the wrong username or password.
Resend Password
When I try “Resend Password” I get:
You entered the wrong email address.
GoDaddy Windows Hosting
I’ve tryied even do everything again and of course is not a wrong typing, what ca I do?
Hi Gerae, thanks for your blog i found very interesting, i did the installation of Zen cart in godaddy following your steps, now i would like to know how i can access zen cart installed in my host to continue with the construction of my oscommerce store, thanks in advance!
Hi Carlos! Once the install is complete on GoDaddy’s side, you should be able to access the admin area from http://yoursite.com/admin/login.php
This is assuming you installed ZenCart in the root folder. If not, it would be something like http://yoursite.com/YOURFOLDER/admin/login.php
Hope that helps
You will need to contact GoDaddy directly for password help.
GoDaddy has just installed Zen Cart onto the host but when I try to go to the admin area using the links they gave me I get a 404 page not found error.
What am I missing to make Zen Cart display?
Hi Gail, can you post or send me the link GoDaddy provided?
Hi Gerae! I installed ZenCart last year via FTP before this nifty new install method. We happily modified it to get the basics up. Now my boss wants to actually add items to sell, go figure
BUT when I go to http://sunrisechildren.org/zencart/admin/login.php I get an unstyled baseline screen for our main site with no admin login. I’m suspecting it’s a 404. Our GoDaddy administration page shows I’ve still got ZenCart installed AND the shop still shows up when we link to it. I just have no way to log in as admin and make mods. I’ve renamed my htaccess files to no avail.
Hi! I am getting “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” errors after installing Zen Cart.

Gerae,
Thanks for the wonderful example! It worked like a breeze!!
Hi Gerae,
Thank you very much for your blog here. How about the zen cart upgrade at GoDaddy?
Here is the thing. After reading your blog, I installed the zen cart 1.3.8 on GoDaddy in Feb 2010. However, we did find some bugs in that version of zen cart. Now the 1.3.9c is available. We want to upgrade it. Do you have any suggestion for us? Or shall I just follow the /docs/2.readme_how_to_upgrade.html?
I would check your DNS, your site is pointing to GoDaddy right now.
Hi Gerae,
I just installed Zen Cart through Godaddy and it is giving me a 404 msg when going to my site, I uploaded a zen cart template into my ftp before that though, could that be why? (found your tut after I uploaded the template files). Thank you for your tutorials btw, they are very easier to understand, I was so happy when I found this!
What does it mean when that WARNING box shows up saying, “Installing Zen Cart in an existing directory can overwrite existing files”? How does one avoid this?
This warning usually appears if your installing ZenCart into your root (or main) directory. It’s just letting you know that if you have any existing files on the server named the same as anyZenCart files, ZenCart will replace them. For example, say you created an index page named index.php. Installing ZenCart into the same folder that contains the index.php file WILL override your file.
I’ve tried the godaddy set-up and I keep getting the following message, “there was an error in setting up the database. check your database options and try again”
