Increasing website traffic
In the 6+ years I’ve ran my web design business, I have spent little time promoting my website. Referrals have kept me so busy that I’ve never had a need to market my website. Now that I have expanded my horizons into affiliate marketing, I have begun creating smaller sites that need traffic. I have spent lots of time promoting my client websites but now that I am working on my own – I feel stuck. How do I increase my traffic???
There are the obvious routes that always come to mind first:
- Link exchanges (reciprocal and one-way)
- Submissions to directories
- Article writing
- Pay per click advertising
I’m not big on link exchanges but have been working on converting my old articles to submit to directories. I’m also not a huge fan of PPC (pay-per-click) simply because I am a tightwad. lol
So what else can a person do to increase their traffic?
I downloaded a free report today titled “77 Ways to Get Traffic” (download it here) which goes over 77 ways to bring in traffic. Some of the ideas were no brainers and have been around forever - remove dead links, better prepare your title tags, use keywords in image files, etc. But there were a few good tips worth reading.
So what is your best method of bringing in traffic?

I have actually had great success with article writing and submitting to directories. It cost nothing except time and works great.
Article writing and directory submission are also part of the Internet marketing strategy I use to market my site. however, I am looking for new ways to generate more traffic.
